Constitution Day taps 10 homeschool students
On Sept. 17, 10 homeschool students participated in Constitution Law Day sponsored by the U.S. District Court.
This is the first year that homeschool students have been invited to participate in this program. The students included DJ Tulis, David Hill, Micah Knott, Hannah Rogers, Megan Jones, Seth Goggans, Morgan Martin, Jessica Slade, Sabrina Bray and Abigail Till.
This year, in addition to the homeschoolers, only three other schools were selected to participate, Central, Red Bank and Hixson high schools.
The Constitution Day activities included comments from District Court Judges Curtis Collier and Sandy Mattice and Magistrate Judges Susan Lee and Michael Carter.
Additional activities included participation in a skit, authored by Judge Curtis Collier. David Hill was given the prominent role. Next came a “game show” which included questions about the constitution, noted cases and American government.
“The students represented the homeschooling community in an excellent manner, and further, illustrated that we, too, are both interested in and familiar with our government,” said mock trial coach Jeff Atherton.
