Spelling bee

11 September 2010

A big “welcome back” to all students and teachers. As you begin the new school year, be sure to include the Homeschool Spelling Bee as a part of the curriculum for your 2nd – 8th grade students. The Homeschool Spelling Bee will be held in January of 2011, and it will be a written test, with awards given in each grade for the best spellers and for the neatest handwriters. The top five spellers will represent us at the Christian and Homeschool Spelling Bee later on in the year.

While the spelling tests are being corrected, students will sit in on a spelling workshop and will also have an opportunity to participate in a practice oral spelling bee.

After all the awards are given out, we will have a little celebration, so please bring a 2-liter drink and a snack to share with everyone.

All of the spelling words for the bee will be taken from the Scripps Howard spelling bee website at www.myspellit.com.

We need 20 families to make this an official Scripps Bee, so please register by sending $5 per family to Deana Thompson, 412 Westbrook Circle NW, Cleveland, TN 37312.

Include in your correspondence an index card with the name and grade of each participant as well as their address, telephone number & email address (if applicable). I look forward to seeing you at the spelling bee.

— DEANA THOMPSON
