Homeschool dads meet at Panera Bread in Hixson

26 February 2011

Coffee2A diverse group of men meets each week in Hixson to discuss a wide range of topics. It meets Friday at 6:45 a.m. at Panera Bread. Occasionally a sentence is uttered about a game somebody saw on TV. But its regulars also challenge each other to think through hard issues. They discuss politics as they relate the Constitution, the free market and God’s providence. Around the table, with coffee steaming and amid scattered pastry crumbs, it has entertained congressional candidates, planned impassioned last minute trips to Washington D.C., devised manly weekend camping trips with sons, talked about the responsibility to defend homes by the exercise of 2nd Amendment rights. The list would go on.

“I look at the meetings as a time for homeschool dads to talk about life and encourage each other as we discuss issues at home, in our community and around the world,” said member Doug Dunn, an insurance company executive. “It challenges us to respond to these issues in a godly manner and to hold each other accountable for our roles at home.”
