The event is sponsored by National Christian Forensics & Communication Association and the Home School Legal Defense Association. It does not use professional speech and debate judges. Rather, the event depend on volunteers to evaluate students’ communication abilities. No experience is necessary. A 30-minute judges’ orientation will be conducted on the tournament days. To serve as a judge, you must be at least 18 years old. Volunteers may judge for just one round, or may judge more, depending on their schedule. A judges’ lounge is provided, and meals will be served.]]> Event at Covenant March 9-12 a real treat

  A debate tournament set for March 9 to 12 on Lookout Mountain, Ga., will give homeschool students a chance to promote communication skills to equip them to convey ideas to people in all walks of life.

  The event is sponsored by National Christian Forensics & Communication Association and the Home School Legal Defense Association. It does not use professional speech and debate judges.

  Rather, the event depend on volunteers to evaluate students’ communication abilities.

  To serve as a judge, you must be at least 18 years old. Volunteers may judge for just one round, or may judge more, depending on their schedule. A judges’ lounge is provided, and meals will be served.

  Students travel from across the nation to compete in team policy debate, Lincoln-Douglas value debate, and 10 individual events (speech events). Top competitors from this tournament will advance to a national Championship in June.

  This year’s debate topics are immigration and isolationism.

  The team policy debate resolution is, “Resolved: That the United States Federal Government should significantly reform its policy toward Russia.”

  The Lincoln-Douglas value debate resolution is, “Resolved: A government’s legitimacy is determined more by its respect for popular sovereignty than individual rights.”

  Speech events include limited preparation events such as extemporaneous (current events), impromptu, and apologetics.
